CHIROPRACTIC CARE

Chiropractic Care for Health

Chiropractic care is a form of highly effective healthcare that keeps on giving. It is tremendously effective at helping patients recover from short-term or acute health problems. However, it is also a powerful method of healing that helps patients stay well and maintain an optimal level of health. Moreover, it helps to prevent new or further problems from developing.

Health problems that may respond favorably to chiropractic care

A chiropractor treats a wide range of musculoskeletal problems. Some of these include:

  • Neck pain
  • Whiplash
  • Back pain
  • Sciatica
  • Scoliosis
  • Shoulder pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Leg, foot, and ankle pain
  • Numbness and tingling in the extremities
  • Headaches and migraines
  • TMJ disorders
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Repetitive stress issues
  • Muscle spasms
  • Pinched nerves and other nerve irritation

A chiropractor can also treat many types of sport and exercise-related injuries, such as:

  • Tennis elbow
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Wrist sprains
  • Knee injuries
  • Shin splints
  • Ankle sprains

Additionally, chiropractic care can be a valuable addition to a treatment protocol for sleep disorders, allergies, digestive problems, asthma, menstrual cramps, and immune system imbalances. Chiropractic treatment may also be of benefit during pregnancy, by helping to relieve neck and back pain and easing the birth process.

Chiropractic care can improve nervous system functioning

Indeed, chiropractic care can be helpful for so many health problems. One reason for this is that chiropractic care can directly affect the operation of the nervous system. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and the many nerves that branch out to the rest of the body. It is a masterful system of communication and control.

The nervous system sends signals to every cell, tissue, and organ in the body through its network of nerves. As such, it controls all the other systems. For instance, the heart relies on the nervous system to signal it to pump the right amount of blood at the right time. The intestines rely on the nervous system to provide signals to complete the digestion of food and transmit the needed nutrients to the bloodstream. Furthermore, white blood cells and other agents of immune defense rely on the nervous system to quickly identify and destroy foreign invaders, including bacteria and viruses.

If spinal nerve interference is present, the nervous system can break down, and signaling can be impaired. This nerve interference can be caused by spinal vertebrae that are not correctly aligned. The misaligned spinal bones create irritation, pressure, and inflammation of the spinal nerves, contributing to pain and loss of function. When spinal motion is limited, the muscles and ligaments that move the spine and hold it together can become irritated. The immediate result of all this spinal interference is distorted flow and quality of information from the brain to the rest of the body.

Then, too little or too much information may be sent to the target cells, tissues, and organs. The messages these structures receive may be the wrong messages. Or, the signals may arrive at the wrong time. The overall outcome can be decreased or inappropriate functioning of many other systems. As you can see, spinal nerve interference is one of the leading contributing factors in many of the problems that prompt a person to seek chiropractic care.

Chiropractic care and spinal manipulation can help reduce and remove nerve interference by increasing the function of the spine. By directly focusing on the spine and nervous system, a chiropractor can help restore health, well-being, and quality of life.
